The 2024 General Election will be held on November 5, 2024. The City of Tulare has the following Council seats up for election:
- City Councilmember - District 1 (4-year term ending December 2028)
- City Councilmember - District 3 (4-year term ending December 2028)
- City Councilmember - District 5 (4-year term ending December 2028)

Nomination Papers
Nomination papers will be available at the Tulare County Registrar of Voters office.

Beginning on the first day of the Signature in Lieu period, candidates can start the nomination process by using the new Nomination Portal on the Tulare County Registrar of Voters website. There is no filing fee to run for City Council.
Once a candidate application has been submitted and approved, the candidate will be emailed petition papers. Candidates will print out the petition papers and gather 20-30 signatures of registered voters of the City of Tulare in the candidate's Council district between July 15 and August 9, 2024 (or August 14, 2024 if extension applies).
Appointments must be made in advance in order to file nomination papers with the Tulare County Registrar of Voters office. The appointment scheduler will become available on their website beginning July 10, 2024. Qualifications to Run for City Council
A candidate for elective office in the City of Tulare must be:
- 18 years of age
- A resident in the Council District they intend to run and hold office in
- A registered voter at your current address at the time nomination papers are issued
- Qualified to vote for the office you are running for at the time nomination papers are issued
One term of office is for four years. There is no limit of terms a person can serve on the Council.
Each candidate is required to complete and submit a Form 700 Statement of Economic Interests with the City Clerk's Office and the Tulare County Registrar of Voters office. Candidates must also file certain forms with the City Clerk's Office before soliciting any campaign contributions or making any campaign expenditures. Visit the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) website for information regarding the Form 700 as well as other campaign filing requirements.
