TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION PROGRAM

There are many types of traffic control devices employed by traffic engineering and law enforcement officials to guide and regulate the flow of traffic. These include signs, traffic signals, and pavement markings (such as center line stripe, “STOP AHEAD” stencils, crosswalks, etc.). The City of Tulare refers to the California State Traffic Manual for guidance in determining how and where these devices are placed. This helps to insure uniformity in the way these devices are employed throughout the State of California. To help our citizens understand how decisions are made regarding the placement of commonly requested traffic control devices, the Engineering Division has created a series of informational brochures referred to as the “Tulare TIP’s” program.
