The Board of Public Utilities Commissioners was established in 1923 by the Tulare City Charter to control and manage the Public Works Department. The divisions within the Public Works Department under the Board's purview include Solid Waste (refuse collection and street sweeping), Water, Sewer, and Wastewater.
The Board of Public Utilities Commissioners consists of five commissioners who serve four-year terms. These commissioners are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by majority vote of the Council. Annually, the Board will reorganize by electing a President and Vice President.
Meetings for the Board of Public Utilities Commissioners are held on the first and third Thursday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber located at the Tulare Public Library, 491 North M Street. There may be more or less meetings depending on current business.
