The Board of Public Utilities Commissioners was established in 1923 by the Tulare City Charter to control and manage the Public Works Department. The divisions within the Public Works Department under the Board's purview include Solid Waste (refuse collection and street sweep­ing), WaterSewer, and Wastewater

The Board of Public Utilities Commissioners consists of five commissioners who serve four-year terms. These commissioners are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by majority vote of the Council. Annually, the Board will reorganize by electing a President and Vice President.

Meetings for the Board of Public Utilities Commissioners are held on the first and third Thursday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber located at the Tulare Public Library, 491 North M Street. There may be more or less meetings depending on current business.

As vacancies occur, your application will be considered for appointment. All applications remain on file for two years or until appointed, whichever occurs first.

Board of Public Utilities Commissioners Meeting

The Board of Public Utilities Commissioners is a five-member board charged with the control and management of the Department of Public Works per City Charter. The Board meets every first and third Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Council Chamber located at the Tulare Public Library. The public is encouraged to attend and participate in public meetings. 

Attending and Participating in Meetings

You can attend meetings in person or access the meetings via YouTube. If you wish to provide public comment while not physically in attendance, you may do so by calling (559) 366-1849 during Public Comments, Public Hearing, and/or General Business items.
